How To Set Up The Canon Pixma Printer
The basic setup procedure includes:
- Unpacking
- Turning on the printer
- Software installation
- Filling ink tanks or Installing ink cartridges
- Loading the paper
These steps will apply to all the Canon PIXMA printers.

Unpack your printer:
- At first, start with the unpacking process. Open the product package and check all the components present in it. You’ll be having a set of ink cartridges or ink bottles, a power cord, and a user manual, along with the Canon PIXMA printer.
- For some Canon PIXMA printers, you’ll be provided with the Setup CD-ROM. So, cross-check depending on your Canon PIXMA printer’s model.
- Take out all the packaging materials from inside the box.
- Later, remove all the protective materials from the inside and outside of your printer. You need to turn on your printer to begin the printing or scanning work with your Canon PIXMA printer. Here’s how to turn on your printer. Providing the power supply to your Canon PIXMA printer:
- Start connecting one of the ends of the power cord to the back of your Canon PIXMA printer and the other end to an electrical outlet.

Procedure for Ink Supply:

- Open the ink tank cover and then the ink tank cap of your printer.
- Now, insert the ink bottle into the filling port.
- Wait until the tank fills.
- Remove the ink bottle from the filling port and close it with its cap.
- Close the ink tank cap followed by the cover.
Loading paper:
- After completing the ink charging process, you can start loading the paper. You can load the paper into the feed slot cover or the paper cassette.
- Fan and align the sheets in the paper stack well before loading it.
- Make sure that you do not exceed the paper limit.
Procedure for Ink Supply:
For some Canon PIXMA printers, there will be supersized ink tank reservoirs located on the front. So, check whether your printer supports ink cartridges or ink tank tanks. If your printer comes with the ink tank reservoirs, follow the steps given below.

Software installation:
As most of the Canon PIXMA printers come with the Setup CD-ROM, you can insert it into your computer to install the driver.

- On your computer, open a web browser.
- Visit the official Canon website.
- Enter the product name and then click Search.
- You’ll be directed to the Drivers and Downloads page.
- Select the required OS.
- Click Download next to the desired printer driver.
- Now, locate and double-click the downloaded file. When prompted, you can select the connection method and complete the printer setup.
- Based on your printer model, you can select either a USB or Wireless connection. It is also recommended to choose the connection method based upon your requirements.
- For some Canon PIXMA printers, you can connect your printer to a computer only through the USB connection.
